This past weekend we headed for Haliburton, when we pulled out of the driveway the sun was shining by the time we reached hwy 48 we were in a blizzard and the 30 kph people were suddenly everywhere.
We eventually turned north toward Udora and were doing about 65k when we came over a rise in the road were right in front of us 2 pickups collided now one of them was heading right at us in the southbound lane. As soon as I touched the brakes I know we were in trouble, the road was too slippery and doom was now approaching because there wasn't enough distance between us and either of the trucks to get stopped one was coming straight at us and the other was sideways across both lanes facing west so I banged it into 4 wheel drive and headed for the left ditch then as the south bound truck skidded past us on our right side in the northbound lane I cut to the right behind him onto the right shoulder and went behind the west facing truck and with a slight skid I was now back in the northbound lane and passing some approaching southbound traffic which had stopped by this time. Lady luck was really smiling on us that time!!
We were then considering whether to head home or keep going we decided that if things didn't improve by the time we got to Pt Bolster, that we would go back. Things got better so we continued on.
The rest of the way through to Eagle Lake was not bad, we were able to do 65 to 70K till we caught up to a Hummer going 20k but first opportunity she pulled over an let us pass.
We spent a fun weekend at K&W then Sunday ignored the warnings and headed home. All went well by sticking to the main highways till about 6K north of Mount Albert when it started with freezing rain, guess what, the g@$^%$#% defrosters wouldn't work properly so we had to improvise a little to get enough defrosting for peeking throuht the ice but we made it home finally.
After supper we turned the TV on, guess what, ice build up on the dish and the picture started to break up and when I first installed the dish, I put it up too high to reach it without a ladder, so I had to improvise.
Next summer I will move the disk-----if I remember.

Hmmm .... "improvise a little to get enough defrosting for peeking throuht the ice" ... what were you doing driving while Mum stuck her head out the window?
And how do you improvise getting snow off a dish that's 20 feet from the ground?
You play your hand close to your vest McGyver ... or should it be McGryper?
Impressive driving Dad. I think it was more your skill and quick thinking than luck that got you out of that one.
What's the point of owning a hummer if you only drive is 20k in conditions it's designed to handle. Granted I guess real HumVees are rather beat up and she probably doesn't want her hummer beat up.
The improvising method may be questionable in the eyes of some people thus I won't answer here.
Wow you still have some quick thinking left in that old brain of your :) heehee
Well i'm sure gald you do. NOw a lecture.. What the hell were you doing driving in conditions like that.. you should now better at your age.. Mum told me always to consider when the weather is bad, before you go out is this trip worth getting hurt/accident/dying/ killing somebody... and i do everything there is bad weather.. Tiss Tiss you shouldn't have been on the roads, yes your skills may be good enough but you never know about that on coming car!!!!! ok that is the end of my lecture :) love you
